ISTE 2010 - Monday 11:00

11:00am-12:00pm
Strategies for Effective Implementation:
Districts Share Their Stories

[Formal Session; Panel]
Location: CCC 503
They have all had success with Tech 4 Learning product called Pixie
So far it looks as though there has been no coordination on this presentation
Forsyth has an ITc in each school and 12 break fix for the district
So far it's pretty universal that they have separated "break fix" from ITC work. This is a good sign considering the movements we've made.
Jill - good advice...if you are adopting something, take something away. Must sunset some legacy stuff.
ask the question "what's the problem I'm trying to fix" before going after new software.
Trailblaze with a few users before going to a wider audience
Again this session is drifting and is lacking focus of exactly why I'm here.
Again - they gloss over the IT side of the issue.
Initial deployment - Obviously, staff development is key. Ft. Collins discussed the Digital Education program and Understanding by Design. Removes shotgun approach ex) target all 4th grade teachers.
Importantly, how does this session relate to the early morning session?
Create templates for teachers for implenmentation - this will give teachers a formula for success. Develop self-help materials
This session could have been so much better if each presenter was focused on the kernel of managing implementation
Use Jing or Camtasia to develop vignettes for software implementations
Reduce barriers for teachers - get teachers to feel comfortable with time, curriculum, etc...
Where is the discussion surrounding data, standards and curriculum, and student achievement.
Again, templates are suggested - this is good, but show examples.
Presenter discussed online curriculum - good idea, but why is this crucial?
Administrator support - this is an obvious factor, but the curriculum Ed tech connection is an absolute necessity for success
This preso could have been an absolute home run with better preparation and focus
*ITC's need to be connected with curriculum coaches to connect and infuse the technology into the taught curriculum
Coaching, communication, and technical support - the communication is essential, exchange cell numbers and skype maybe
Again - the question of equity has come up, and equity does not necessarily mean all will be equal...foster you tech eagles and put lots of your eggs into your best baskets.
The facilitator needs to speak less and let the panel share their thoughts. Ran out of time because facilitator gabbed too much
Last topic was celebrating success - film festivals, etc...Parkway Digital Film Festival
